Rubber tracks
Rubber tracks are the most common wear part on a mini excavator. They are sold by three numbers: width, pitch and number of links, all in millimetres, for example 180 x 72 x 37.
Before you buy
- Read the size moulded inside the old track, or measure the width and pitch and count the links. 180 x 72 x 37 and 180 x 72 x 39 are both common sizes and are not interchangeable.
- Check the drive-lug profile and the roller arrangement. Two tracks of the same size can have different lugs.
- Buy both tracks together so wear stays even, and check the sprocket and idler while the old tracks are off.
- Look for rusted steel cores inside the old track. That is the usual way a track fails.
When to replace: Replace when steel cores show through, lugs are cut or missing, or the track cannot be tensioned without slipping.
