Why owners do it
Many mini excavators ship with a moulded vinyl pan or a thin cushion with no suspension and little adjustment. After an hour on rough ground the seat is the first thing owners want to change.
What is involved
- Measure the existing bolt pattern and the distance from the seat base to the canopy, controls and pedals.
- Choose a seat that fits that envelope; compact tractor and ride-on mower seats are the usual choice.
- Make or buy an adapter plate if the bolt patterns differ, and use high-tensile bolts with locking nuts.
- Fit or refit a lap belt anchored to the frame, not the seat cushion.
Typical parts
- Compact suspension or padded seat
- Adapter plate or slide rails
- Grade 8.8 bolts and nyloc nuts
- Retractable lap belt
Check before you start
- If the machine has a seat or operator-presence switch, keep it connected and working.
- Sit in the seat with the joysticks and pedals at full travel before drilling anything.
- A taller seat can put your head closer to the canopy frame; keep clear headroom.
