Why owners do it
Some mini excavators have a short outlet that points at the seat, the canopy or the ground beside the operator. Owners extend it upward or turn it away so fumes clear the operator and the cab area.
What is involved
- Identify the outlet size and how the muffler is mounted.
- Fit a short upright stack or turn-out using a clamp-on extension or a welded section.
- Support the extension so engine vibration does not crack the muffler or the mounting.
- Add a heat shield where the pipe passes near the seat, hoses or wiring.
Typical parts
- Exhaust extension or stack matched to outlet size
- Exhaust clamps or a welded joint
- Mounting bracket
- Heat shield or wrap
Check before you start
- Keep the spark arrestor or muffler in place; it matters for fire risk on dry sites.
- A long or narrow extension adds back pressure; keep it short and full-bore.
- Leave clearance to hydraulic hoses and fuel lines.
