Operator cooling fan

Add a 12 V fan to move engine heat and fumes away from the seat.

Why owners do it

On many mini excavators the engine sits directly under or behind the seat, so heat rises around the operator. A small fan on the canopy post and some insulation under the seat panel make long days noticeably easier.

What is involved

  • Mount a 12 V fan on the canopy post, roll bar or a bracket behind the seat.
  • Run a fused feed from the battery or an ignition-switched circuit through a switch.
  • Add heat-reflective insulation to the underside of the seat panel or engine cover where it will not block cooling airflow.

Typical parts

  • 12 V clip-on or bracket fan
  • Inline fuse holder and fuse
  • Switch and automotive cable
  • Heat-reflective insulation mat

Check before you start

  • Check the alternator or charging coil output before adding loads; small petrol units have little spare capacity.
  • Keep cables away from the exhaust, the swing area and pinch points.
  • Do not cover engine air intakes or radiator openings with insulation.
