Why owners do it
Many mini excavators use small air filters that clog quickly in dry dirt. A pre-cleaner or a remote intake catches heavy dust before it reaches the filter.
What is involved
- Fit a pre-cleaner or a raised intake to the existing air box inlet.
- Check every joint between the filter and the engine is sealed.
Typical parts
- Pre-cleaner sized to the intake
- Hose and clamps if relocating the intake
Check before you start
- Do not restrict airflow; a pre-cleaner too small for the engine can reduce power.
- Keep a spare filter element on hand.
