Hydraulic cylinders

Hydraulic cylinders move the boom, arm, bucket and dozer blade. A complete cylinder is often a better buy than repairing a badly scored rod.

Before you buy

  • Identify which cylinder you need: boom, arm, bucket, swing or dozer. They are not interchangeable.
  • Measure the bore, rod diameter, stroke, closed length and both pin-hole sizes.
  • Check the port thread and position, which vary between sellers even at the same size.
  • If only the seals have failed, a seal kit costs far less than a new cylinder.

When to replace: Replace or reseal when the rod is scored, oil weeps past the gland or the cylinder drifts under load.
